Compare the DC Deck-Building Game Multiverse Edition with the original release. Learn about card-only vs full packaging, crossover packs like DC Bombshells, and promo cards like Starfire.
Quick answer
If you already own the Multiverse Box, the Multiverse Edition is a cost-effective way to add base set cards without extra packaging. If you want a complete boxed game with a rulebook, choose the original release.
What the Multiverse Edition includes
The DC Deck-Building Game Multiverse Edition contains all cards and components from the base set, but does not include the rulebook or the game box. This makes it ideal for players who already have the Multiverse Box and want to expand their card pool without paying for duplicate packaging. The rulebook is available as a free download from the publisher.
Original release: full package experience
The original DC Deck-Building Game comes in a standard box with a printed rulebook, making it a self-contained purchase. This is the best choice for new players who do not own any DC Deck-Building Game product yet, or for collectors who prefer complete retail packaging.
Expanding your collection: crossover packs and promo cards
Both the Multiverse Edition and the original game are compatible with crossover packs like DC Bombshells (Kickstarter Edition) and promo cards such as the Starfire Promo Card. These add new characters and mechanics without requiring a specific version of the base game. The Bombshells pack introduces Bombshell Attack cards for explosive effects, while the Starfire card is an oversized promo originally created for the Heroes Unite release.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Multiverse Edition (card-only): Lower price (USD 22.49) but no box or rulebook. Requires the Multiverse Box or a storage solution. Rulebook available as a free download. Best for existing Multiverse Box owners who want to add base sets cheaply.
- Original release (full package): Higher price (USD 29.99) but includes a box, rulebook, and all components. Ready to play immediately. Best for new players or collectors who want a complete retail product.
- Crossover packs & promo cards: Compatible with both versions. DC Bombshells (USD 16.74) adds 2-5 player WWII-themed gameplay. Starfire Promo Card (USD 3.54) is an oversized collectible card. Great for expanding either version without buying a new base game.
